Arena Rules

Arena Tournament

We are currently offering a cash prize to the winner of the first arena tournament. Before we can award a prize, a field of fifty (50) users must be participating. Each of the fifty users must play a minimum of 25 games. The email address of each participant will be verified. You may check to see how many people are participating by checking the Arena Tournament Leaderboard. Once at least 50 users have played a minimum of 25 games, a tournament end date will be announced. The end date will be approximately 1 week from the time that the 50 player field is complete. At the end date, the participant with the highest Power Rating will win the cash prize and have his/her name listed on the Page of Fame. In the event of a tie, the money will be divided equally between/among the winners. As discussed below, all game outcomes are final.

ATB Simulator

The All-timebaseball simulator is meant to give realistic, accurate results based on objectively compiling actual Major League Baseball player statistics (We use a database of statistics from the good people at The Baseball Archive) However, like any computer model, the ATB simulator is not perfect. All win/loss decisions by the simulator are final. Even if the user believes or can demonstrate that the outcome of the game simulation was influenced by faulty logic in the simulation code, inaccuracies in player data, or other reasons, the outcome of the games is final and will be used in determining the user's power factor.

Leaderboard

By playing arena ball, you agree to have your first name, your home town, and your state listed on the leaderboard, as submitted when you join. ATB does not do anything with the information, we simply want users to have a feel for how many other people are participating. We will not list any information that may be used to identify or contact you, such as your last name or email address.

Game Hints

The best advice for selecting successful teams is this: know baseball statistics for the players you are selecting. The same strategy that is used in real baseball (a good base stealer leading off, a power hitter batting clean up, etc.) is good strategy for the simulation. Also, as in real baseball, the pitcher is the important factor in determining the outcome of the game.

Do not pick:

Rollie Fingers

Tommy Lasorda

Satchel Paige

for your starting pitchers. Because they pitched relatively few innings per game during their ML careers, the simulation thinks that they "tire easily." As a result, as the game progresses their pitching becomes much worse. Future versions of the game may include relief pitchers. In this case, these players may be good choices.
Users must play fair. Report any abuse to ATB via email using the contact form.

FOLLOW THE GAME PROMPTS!

Make sure that you have someone to play against. You may do this by arranging a game, as discussed on the home page. When you enter a field,

send a message to your opponent!

This will allow you to make sure that someone is there! You will also note that the time that messages are sent is listed. You can use the time that the last message was sent as a guide in determining if the person is still present on the field. If you get no response from the opponent, and the the time of his/her last message (if any) indicate that he/she is no longer present, you may clear the field. Note that this will reset all players, as well as log you out of the field. You will be required to log back in to the field. Also, if two or more users are present, you will get a message of "field occupied by two other users." However, you will also be able to view the messages sent between the two teams, as well as the players that are being picked. If you log into a field and see that there is apparently no activity, please Contact Us, and we will reset the field.

The game will guide you through the process of selecting a team, playing a simulation, and viewing results. Please follow the prompts to ensure that the flow of the team selection process proceeds as intended. Using your brower's back button at inappropriate times may derail the team selection process. If the team selection process becomes unwieldy, you may select the "Clear Field" option to begin the team selection process from the beginning. However, do not do this without first agreeing with your opponent.
